SEN COORDINATOR
FRONTLINE SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE FOR VITAL SEN PROVISION. The term ‘Special Educational Needs is used to describe learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for children to learn than most children of the same age. Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) are likely to need extra or different help from that given to other children their age. This help is known as special educational provision. COMPASS POINTS. There are many different pathways that would give you the experience you need to train in this field. Any good degree will allow you to train as a Teacher - this is an essential requirement which will enable you to progress. If you are an aspiring SENCO we would recommend long term SEND experience prior to your teacher training. An educational setting would be most suited for the development of key skills. After a period teaching you must gain the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination (NASENCO).
This career destination is diverse and requires huge amounts of collaborative skills. For example you will work daily with Teachers, Senior Leaders, Governors, Parents, Educational Psychologists, health services, CAMHS, social services, family support workers and youth groups. And that's not even an exhaustive list!
